What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to gain a therapeutic response……….Massage therapy provides an alternative health option to help alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain syndromes. It can also greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning, if employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury.”-From the Ontario Massage Therapist Association (OMTA) brochure.

What is medical massage therapy?
Medical massage therapy is the application of safe
therapeutic massage techniques to specific medical
conditions. Medical massage therapists are knowledgeable about the precautions
and considerations of working with individuals whose health is compromised and
are familiar with the hospital setting, use of medical terminology and
jargon, and often are involved in medical treatment plans. Medical massage therapy deals
with the treatment of medical conditions utilizing therapeutic and treatment-based massage. Medical massage therapists are able to identify and treat
the stresses endured by the body in cases of multiple sclerosis, spinal cord
injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, diabetes, AIDS, cancer, burns, and
post-surgical complications, chronic pain and fatigue, fibromyalgia and other chronic medical
conditions.

What to Expect in Massage Therapy session
We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This allows you time to relax before your treatment. Coming on time will to be able to start the treatment on time will be greatly appreciated so as not to cause inconvenience to those patients who came on time for their appointments after you.
First Time Patients
If you are a first time patient, you will be asked to complete a confidential medical case history form, which will help the Therapist form your assessment and treatment plan.
During this time, you should tell the Therapist the desired outcome of your session and she will discuss to you the type of massage therapy treatment suitable to your medical condition, the areas of the body to work on & other issues. All information about you including any conversation between you and your therapist will remain confidential.
Individualized Treatment Plan
You and your Therapist will develop a treatment plan based on your medical condition and lifestyle or needs. The treatment plan can be changed anytime you wish and reassessment may be done at an agreed upon time.
What to Expect
A regular full body massage covers the back, legs, arms, shoulders, & neck unless other areas need to be addressed. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. Your choice of Massage oil or aromatherapy oil or lotion will be used to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin. Make yourself comfortable. The Therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm).
